Lovington police help injured Roswell officer

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – A Roswell police sergeant who was seriously injured in the line of duty last year was honored Wednesday by another police force.

The Lovington Police Department presented Sergeant Steve Meredith with a $1,200 check to help him pay for his medical bills.

The police chief says he hopes the donation will encourage other departments to raise money for officers hurt at work.

In October, Meredith was hit by a car while he was directing traffic near a state police shooting.

He suffered dozens of injuries including a broken femur and fractured skull.

He’s undergone multiple surgeries and is continuing to recover.

He doesn’t know if he will ever return back to work.
