Agreement reached to close part of NM plant to ease pollution

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Federal regulators want to close part of a New Mexico power plant to ease pollution in the country.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency negotiated an agreement regarding the San Juan generating station with the governor’s administration and pnm.

New equipment was supposed to decrease pollution but the company argues that the equipment is too costly.

There is now talk about closing two units at the plant instead.

The 30-day public comment period on the agreement began Wednesday.
