7 cyclists injured in 80 bicycle wreck

GILA, N.M. (KRQE) – A horrific crash involving 80 bicyclists racing in the Tour of the Gila left several injured Wednesday.

The director says the crash happened at noon as 150 riders were racing in the first leg of the five-day race from Silver City to Mogollon.

No vehicles were involved in the crash but officials say they believe the wind was a factor.

We’re told out of the 80 who crashed, seven riders were injured.

Five were taken to the hospital by ambulance the other two were airlifted.

On the tour of the Gila’s twitter account some people are saying it’s the worst crash they’ve ever been behind and others say they hope the victims are okay.

No names of victims have been released.
