Another Lobo football player investigated in gang rape

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Another Lobo athlete has been arrested and charged with kidnapping and criminal sexual penetration in the rape of a female student earlier this month.

UNM confirms 21-year-old SaQwan Edwards is facing two counts of sexual criminal penetration and one count of kidnapping.

Edwards turned himself in to the Metropolitan Detention Center Tuesday.

He is a UNM redshirt senior cornerback from Houston, Texas.

The investigation into Edwards’ involvement began on April 25, UNMPD obtained DNA from Edwards. His DNA was sent to the State Crime Lab for testing. After working with the District Attorney, a District Court issued a warrant for Edwards’ arrest.

Edwards has been suspended indefinitely from the UNM football program Head Coach Bob Davie said.
