Mason Campbell could face lawsuit from victims

ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – The families of the Roswell school shooting victims say they might have to sue the alleged shooter.

Mason Cambell is accused of opening fire in the gym of Berrendo Middle school in January, hitting students Nathaniel Tavarez and Kendall Sanders leaving both with permanent injuries.

The victim’s families say to this point they have been unsuccessful in getting Campbell’s family to pay the medical bills.

Sander’s family says they will work over the next week to come up with an agreement but if it doesn’t happen they will file a lawsuit.

Mason Campbell remains locked up at a juvenile detention center.

He had court hearing scheduled for Tuesday but it was postponed. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
