Search intensifies for source of WIPP radiation leak

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – The search is intensifying for the source of the underground radiation leak at WIPP.

Last week investigators reached the underground storage site called panel seven where the radiation is coming from. But they had to leave before they could identify the source.

When they go down again they’ll stay longer and bring equipment that will help them see better.

The Valentine’s Day leak released low level radiation to the surface and contaminated 21 workers. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
