Mayor makes changes to Santa Fe Plaza proposal

Mayor holds off on Santa Fe Plaza changes

SANTA FE (KRQE) – Santa Fe’s new mayor is making changes when it comes to closing the plaza to all drivers all the time.

Monday night at a city meeting, Mayor Javier Gonzales proposed closing the plaza to all cars only during part of the year, not year round like he originally suggested.

The mayor wants to close it to cars from Memorial Day to late summer, after the Santa Fe Fiestas weekend.

He wants a car ban in place by later this year in time for the summer tourist season. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
