DEMING, N.M. (KRQE) – According to the National Weather Service, Interstate 10 from Deming to the Arizona state line is closed due to low visibility and reports of a wildfire. The NWS says the fire is near Gage, New Mexico.

Fire officials say the Prom Fire has burned an estimated 2,000 to 3,000 acres along Interstate 10 at mile marker 64.

High winds have been reported in the area and contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Officials say due to the size of the fire some structures are threatened but it is not an immediate threat.
