Prescription drug take-back day set for Saturday

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A big operation is taking place this weekend across the state to get prescription drugs to a safe place.

National prescription drug take-back day is Saturday, and there are collection sites set up around New Mexico, from Las Cruces and Deming to Socorro and Santa Fe.

Health officials say safely disposing of old or unused medication is one small step to fighting prescription drug abuse.

It also keeps the drugs out of our water supply.

In the last two years, more than 10,000 pounds of prescription drugs were collected in New Mexico. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
