Funeral services held for well-known car dealer

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The funeral service was held Friday morning for former UNM regent and car dealer Don Chalmers who lost his battle with cancer on Sunday.

Chalmers moved to New Mexico in the mid-’90s and set up car dealerships in Rio Rancho and Santa Fe.

He served as a board member for a number of community groups, and he was appointed to the UNM Board of Regents in 2005 before stepping down last year.

UNM president Bob Frank said in a statement that the university benefited from Chalmers’ thoughtful advice and energetic expertise. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
