CUBA, N.M. (KRQE) – A little girl’s green thumb has paid off.
Lisette Sanchez, 9, from Cuba, New Mexico won a $1,000 scholarship for her 15 pound head of cabbage.
Lisette says she grew the cabbage last season in her family’s greenhouse and he shared it with her family. They made coleslaw and stew out of it.
Lisette is among 22 other elementary students from across the country to be chosen for the award.
It’s given out by bonnie plants the largest producer of vegetables and herbs in the U.S.
