Missing ABQ man reunited with family, thanks rescuers

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An Albuquerque dementia patient who went missing for nearly three days got a chance to say thank you to the law enforcement officers who helped rescue him this weekend.

After an exhausting search, state police found 87-year-old Roger Houghton near the Rio Grande.

Houghton had gotten his car stuck in a remote area of Socorro County. He was finally found after a BNSF employee on a passing train noticed Houghton waving and called police.

Earlier this week he was reunited with his daughter Nancy Lee, who lives in Indiana.

After working with deputies from a thousand of miles away, she took time to say thank you to for all their hard work Thursday.

After being reunited, Houghton’s daughter bought him something he has never had before, a cell phone.

He also plans to move closer to his family in Indiana.
