ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Cleveland “Pancake” Thomas said leaving Lobo basketball was a tough choice and disappointing.
Thomas had hoped to spend his entire career in Lobos cherry and silver. He said loyalty is important to him.
Thomas had a couple of meetings with head coach Craig Neal before reaching a final decision. Thomas said he will miss Lobo fans. They exceeded his expectations.
Thomas averaged 3.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 15.2 minutes of action per game this past season. He said there were various reasons to leave but, his role on the team for next year, whether he would be a starter or not, was one of the biggest factors.
Thomas plans to transfer to a division one school and sit out a season. He said there is already interest but, he has yet to decide on a new school.
