Board votes on fluoride, stalls on water rates

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – It’ll be about a month before residents will know if water bills will increase in Bernalillo County.

The board did not vote on the proposal Wednesday night, but they did vote on the fluoride issue and decided not to go forward with the measure.

There was talk about adding fluoride to the water again to reach federal fluoride recommendations.

Fluoride occurs naturally in Albuquerque’s water system. The water authority stopped adding it in 2011.

The board says they will consider the issue again in the future. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
