John’s Wednesday Afternoon Forecast

As a storm passes north today, winds will pick up. The state will also dry out. This will lead to critical fire weather conditions today. Red Flag Warnings have been posted for the entire state, with the exception of the northwest and Northern Mountains. Winds will gust up to 35 mph in Albuquerque this afternoon.

Winds come down some for Thursday as the storm exits well to our north and east. However, another storm will approach Friday, keeping winds breezy. The workweek also ends on the warm side with temperatures near or just above normal for this time of year.

A storm crosses New Mexico this weekend. There will be better chances of showers with this storm, especially across the north. However, the big story will once again be the wind. Gusts could exceed 50 mph over the weekend. In addition, cooler air will filter in for Sunday, dropping temperatures as much as 10° – 15° below average. Combined with the wind, expect a rather blustery day.

Winds decrease early next week as the storm pulls away. Temperatures quickly rebound as well, especially by Tuesday of next week. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
