Woman pleads no contest to vehicular homicide

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A woman who was drunk and slammed into a motorcyclist last year, killing him pleaded no contest Tuesday to vehicular homicide.

Amanda Casaus killed 51-year-old Peter Lafond.

Casaus was driving east on molten rock road in northwest Albuquerque in March 2013 while Lafond was driving south on Unser. Somehow Casaus pulled into Lafond’s lane and hit him.

Lafond died at the scene.

Casaus failed field sobriety tests and blew above the presumed legal level of intoxication.

A sentencing date has not been set.
