S.C. experts visit WIPP site

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – More underground work is taking place at WIPP with help from some experts from out of town.

They come from the South Carolina Department of Energy site.

They are in Carlsbad to teach and train workers on installing high efficiency air filters below ground.

The current filters need to be replaced because they were underground at the time of February’s radiation leak.

Crews are holding mock drills to get hands-on experience before they go underground to swap out the filters.
