Preschool breaks ground on natural playground

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A preschool not only planted trees for Earth Day but is also getting ready to create a natural playground.

The Jewish Community Center on Wyoming Boulevard near Academy northeast had its groundbreaking Tuesday.

They plan to trade the plastic playground for one made out of natural products, including tree stumps and other pieces of nature for kids to hop on.

It will also include vegetable and herb gardens.

The center’s executive director says an organic playground will benefit the kid’s creativity.

This will be one of the few natural playgrounds in Albuquerque.

The center hopes it will become a model for other schools. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
