Suspect wanted following Marshal-involved shooting

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – U.S. Marshals are still trying to locate a man they say is considered armed and dangerous.

U.S. Marshals were attempting to serve a felony warrant to Rufus Phelps Friday when shots were fired near the BioPark on Central and Tingley.

According to officials, it was the U.S. Marshals Service who opened fire as Phelps escaped custody.

Authorities located his vehicle Saturday morning near Atrisco and Central.

The U.S. Marshals said Phelps has an extensive and violent past. Marshals said he is also an admitted Gangster Disciple gang member.

If you see Phelps, U.S. Marshals say you should not approach him.

Contact the U.S. Marshals Service at 505-462-2300 if you have any information about Phelps. In the event of an emergency you should call 911.
