NM wildlife area to close for improvements

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Game and Fish Department is closing a fishing and hunting area along the San Juan River in northwestern New Mexico so improvements can be made.

The 80 acre Hammond Tract Wildlife Management area will close until June 20th.

Workers will start Monday to improve stream habitat, plant native vegetation, replace a boat ramp and upgrade a parking lot.

Eventually they’ll create new wetlands in the area.

Boaters will need to exit the river before the Hammond Tract boat ramp because it’s the last takeout above a diversion dam.
