Man found burning near NMSU died of natural causes

LAS CRUCES (KRQE) – It turns out there was no foul play in the death of a man found burning on the NMSU campus earlier this year.

Investigators said 55-year-old Richard Livsay died of natural causes.

His body was found in January burning in a drainage culvert underneath Interstate 25 on the edge of campus.

Arson investigators determined that the fire started accidentally from a candle.

Police say Livsay was homeless. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
