Developers tour El Vado motel

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Plans to redevelop an historic motel on Central are moving full steam ahead.

A group of developers got a first-hand look at the El Vado Motel near Central and Tingley Wednesday.

The city purchased the property four years ago for $1.4 million but it is still vacant.

Several people walked around the property and toured the motel Wednesday.

The visit was an opportunity for them to come up with ideas for the site and ask questions.

City officials are looking for someone who could turn it into a boutique-type motel and develop the surrounding property for commercial use and affordable housing.

Developers must submit their proposals to the city by July and the winner will be chosen in August.

The city hopes construction will begin a year from now. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
