Drunk driver trades teen places at checkpoint

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Sheriff’s deputies say a suspected drunk driver stopped and switched places with a teenage passenger in plain view of officers at a DWI checkpoint.

It happened near Bridge and Isleta on Friday night.

Deputies working a sobriety checkpoint reported seeing 43-year-old Raul Acosta driving and stopping just before the checkpoint, and switching places with his 17-year-old nephew.

Acosta failed field sobriety tests.

On Sunday, he appeared before a judge on two counts of child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He had another teenager insider the car, as well.
