Deming marine chosen for infantry study

DEMING, N.M. (KRQE) – A marine from Deming has been chosen to take part in a study on the effects of women in combat.

Chevon Ferrell collard recently graduated from U.S Marine Corps training in South Carolina.

According to the Deming Headlight, she is one of a few female marines chosen for the infantry battalion training in North Carolina.

The training used to be strictly for men, but last September the marines allowed female soldiers to participate so they could study women in combat.

Collard told the paper she feels empowered being a woman in the Marine Corps.
