ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Albuquerque firefighters, police and others are working on a new project to help the homeless in the city, specifically homeless students.

It’s called Sirens for Homeless Students and aims to collect everything from socks and underwear to toiletries and non perishable food.

The public can drop off the items at any fire or police station or participating businesses.

There are nearly 6,000 homeless students in the Albuquerque area.

The fundraiser runs through April 26.
