New info released on Torrance County shooting

TORRANCE COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – State Police have released more information about the man shot by Torrance County deputies after he shot at them.

It happened Saturday evening.

State police say a Torrance County deputy and Estancia police officer arrived at the home in Mountainair in reference to a suspicious vehicle called in by the homeowner.

The homeowner reported it after having other burglaries on his property.

The release from State Police says as the officers were leaving, the landowner shot at them thinking they were connected to the burglary and not officers.

That’s when they shot back wounding the landowner. He’s expected to survive.

Torrance County deputy Mico Fernandez and Estancia Police Department officer Stephanie Reynolds have been identified as the two law enforcement officers involved.

The case is now forwarded to the DA’s office to see if anyone will be charged.
