Firefighters battle Whitewater blaze

GRANT COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – Firefighters in Grant County are trying to contain a human caused fire on Whitewater Road east of Highway 90 south of Tyrone.

According to NM Forestry, the fire has already burned two outbuilding and approximately five to six structures are threatened.

Officials say that crews have been able to stop the forward spread of the fire which will prevent the fire from threatening more structures.

An air tanker has been assisting crews who will continue to work throughout the evening.

Thirty to forty acres have been burned however; no evacuations have been reported at this time.
