SFPD seeks new chief

SANTA FE (KRQE) – The search continues for the next police chief for the Santa Fe Police Department.

Santa Fe’s mayor has formed a citizen screening committee which will review applicants for the position.

A spokesperson for the city says so far they have had nearly 50 applicants for the job.

The committee is now working to narrow down the pool of applicants to five.

They will then be interviewed by the city manager.

“But its exciting, we have from all over the country as far east as Philadelphia Pennsylvania, California, i have the list here, its amazing,” said Santa Fe spokesperson Jodi McGinnis.

Santa Fe’s former police chief, Raymond Rael, who retired in March, became chief in 2011.

Rael served more than 20 years with the Santa Fe Police Department.
