Man stabbed by fairgrounds wanted by police

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A man stabbed across from the fairgrounds in Albuquerque on Monday night has a warrant out for his arrest.

Police say just before 9 p.m., Mathew Chavez, 25, was stabbed in the arm and back.

They say he was trying to sell a glass pipe to a group of people near Central and San Pablo. He then took off to the Talin Market where police were called.

Chavez was hospitalized. Police say when he gets out, he’ll be booked on an outstanding warrant for armed robbery.

Officers say he hasn’t given up any information to help them identify his attackers. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
