ROSWELL, N.M. (KRQE) – State Police are investigating the death of a man at a New Mexico college.
Investigators said they found the man in an Eastern New Mexico University-Roswell dorm room Monday night.
Police will only say it’s suspicious, but 911 calls obtained by KRQE News 13 reveal what may have happened.
“Two men came into my house and attacked me and I shot one,” said the caller.
Detectives said they were called to one of the University’s dorms around 9 p.m. Monday for a suspicious death.
They said they found a man in his mid-twenties dead inside a student’s room.
Investigators wouldn’t say how the man died, but students said they heard gunshots coming from the room.
“They had gotten into some sort of scuffle and somebody shot,” said Josh Fitisemanu.
In the 911 recording, the caller says two men came to his dorm room.
He says he shot one of them because he thought they were going to hurt him.
“They reached in their waist bands like they had weapons, so I feared for my life and did what I had to do,” said the caller.
Detectives say they’re questioning the two men they found inside the dorm room where the man was killed.
Neighbors and students are in shock.
“It just makes you wonder like for one who are you living around,” said one student.
Students say the two men may have been fighting over drug money, but police wouldn’t confirm that.
State police say they’re still investigating and no arrests have been made.
