Ex-Bernalillo County investment officer off ballot

BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – The former Bernalillo County Investment Officer has been bumped off the ballot for state treasurer.

That’s because Patrick Padilla failed to collect enough petition signatures to get on the ballot.

This comes after John Wertheim, another candidate for treasurer, challenged Padilla’s signatures.

His campaign claimed Padilla did not collect enough valid signatures to get on the ballot.

A district court judge agreed.

This now leaves the democratic nomination for treasurer between Wertheim and former state senator Tim Eichenberg.

The winner will face Republican Rick Lopez in the November general election.

Padilla quit his Bernalillo county post in December after critics lashed out against his long-range investments.

That left the county short on cash and stuck with huge losses.
