Aztec residents unhappy with sign ordinance

AZTEC. N.M. (KRQE) – A public meeting is planned for Tuesday night because of an unusual problem growing anger about the penalties and rules for garage sale signs in Aztec.

Under the ordinance people must obtain a $35 permit to post temporary signs and they must be on private property.

Those who violate the ordinance face fines of $100 for a first offense and an additional hundred dollars each subsequent offense.

Residents have complained that it’s overkill.

The public meeting is scheduled for 5:15 at city hall where there will be time for public comment.
