NM man who shot at police had violent past

CARLSBAD, N.M. (KRQE) – A man who repeatedly shot at a sheriff’s deputy in Carlsbad last week had previously been convicted of second-degree murder.

Fabian Fierro, 36, was convicted in the 1997 death of a 19-year-old Roswell man.

According to on line court records he was sentenced to 15 years but was then paroled.

Last Wednesday Eddy County deputies say Fierro and a 17-year-old fired at him after he tried to pull them over.

Carlsbad police later arrested them after a 7 hour standoff.

Investigators say since being paroled, Fierro has been charged with several misdemeanor offenses, including drug possession and evading officers.
