Man shot by NM deputy, officer in stable condition

TORRANCE COUNTY (KRQE) – A man shot by deputies in Torrance County this weekend is expected to survive but authorities are not quite ready to release his name.

According to the Torrance County Sheriff the man in a suspicious vehicle opened fire on a Torrance County deputy and an Estancia Police officer around 10 Saturday night.

The lawmen fired back hitting the suspect.

This all happened about 10 miles north of Mountainair.

State police are now investigating the shooting itself.

The sheriff said the suspect’s condition is now stable and his injuries are not life threatening.

The deputy and officer involved in the shooting are on standard paid leave.
