Traffic stop leads to arrest of wanted Kansas man

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A traffic stop just outside of Albuquerque has landed a wanted Kansas fugitive behind bars.

Bernalillio County sheriff’s deputies say 39-year-old Patrick Close was driving east on Interstate 40, west of Albuquerque near Route 66 Casino, when a deputy noticed his erratic driving. The deputy ran Close’s name and learned that Close was wanted was on a warrant out of Kansas for the rape of a child under the age of 14.

According to investigators in Kansas, Close would film the acts and then upload them to the internet.

Investigators say Close left Kansas before an arrest warrant was issued.

Close is now in the Metro Detention Center in Albuquerque.

According to BCSD, investigators in Kansas said Close was placed on their most-wanted list because they feared he was near Mexico and may have been attempting to flee across the boarder.

Officials in Kansas say they are already working to extradite Close back to Kansas.

According to deputies, a passenger in Close’s car, a man from Artesia, was arrested on a warrant for theft of a credit card.
