ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Holly Holm will need to make more room in her combat trophy case.
The former world boxing champion is now an MMA Champion. Holm defeated Juliana Werner of Brazil Friday night to take the first ever Legacy Fight Championship Bantamweight title for women at the Route 66 Casino Hotel.
Holm dominated the fight with a combination of kicks and punches that rocked the Muay Thai champ Werner. Holm hurt Werner in the second round with a kick to the liver that sounded like an exploding firecraker. Despite the punishment Werner kept coming forward. Holm would make her pay.
By the fifth round Werner appeared gassed. She took a big blow to the head when she was on the canvas, trying to keep Holm away with kicks. Once both fighters were upright, Holm went in for the kill.
A high kick to Werner’s head dropped her to the canvas once again. Holm went in for the ground and pound and the fight was stopped one minute and fifty seconds into the 5th and final round. With the win Holm keeps her perfect record intact with 7 wins.
