City prepares for protests, rallies

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Citizens calling for change in Albuquerque have planned several protests Friday.

Beginning at 4:15 p.m. groups will gather at Civic Center Plaza to protest against recent Albuquerque Police Department actions.

However, protesters say this demonstration is not only about APD. They say it is about reforming the system and helping the community. In addition to the protest, the group will also be collecting food and clothing donations for the homeless.

News 13 has learned that City Hall employees were advised to leave at 4 p.m. due to the expected traffic.

Another rally is planned outside the District Attorney’s office at 4:45 p.m.

This rally is related to the one year anniversary of the fatal shooting of Jonathan Mitchell.

The Answer Coalition protest against APD will begin at 7 p.m. at Washington and Central.

Stay with KRQE News 13 for more about these protests as they progress.
