Bitcoin ATM leaves ABQ

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – It looks like the world’s first Bitcoin ATM that was housed at an Albuquerque cigar bar has bit the dust.

In February, Eric Stromberg, the owner of Enchanted Bitcoins installed the ATM in the Nob Hill bar Imbibe.

Stromberg told KRQE News 13 he chose Albuquerque because New Mexico is one of the few states with friendly regulations.

But now he told Albuquerque business first that the Bitcoin market is not in demand here so he’s taking it to San Francisco.

The Bitcoin ATM allowed people to buy the virtual money with real cash. You could then use the Bitcoins to buy things like video games or books.
