ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Archbishop Michael Sheehan got a chance to visit with Pope Francis last week and give him a unique gift from New Mexico.
Sheehan was on business in Rome.
The archbishop told the pontiff he was doing a great job as pope. Pope Francis then smiled and patted Sheehan on the hand.
Sheehan later presented the Holy Father with a rosary made of special clay from the Pueblo of Ohkay Owingeh.
Sheehan has submitted his resignation a requirement in the Catholic Church when a bishop turns 75.
But the Vatican can choose not to accept that resignation.
