MCKINLEY COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – A man has been charged with killing his 2-year-old nephew for wetting his pants.
Fernando Mariano, 23, said in a statement that he jabbed Joel Jim Friday with a stick multiple times, then shoved him, causing the boy to hit his head.
The Associated Press cites the Gallup Independent as saying, the office of the medical investigator says the boy suffered extensive blunt force trauma to his abdomen.
The District Attorney’s office plans to file an amended complaint charging Mariano with child abuse resulting in death.
Mariano is being held on a $100,000 bond.
