ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A huge crowd is expected at Monday’s city council meeting demanding changes within Albuquerque Police Department.
City Council President Ken Sanchez and other council members have reduced the items on the agenda to make sure there’s enough time for public comment.
The council will focus on task force recommendations for the police oversight commission.
The recommendations include making the civilian commission independent with access to internal affairs files, the ability to subpoena records, and the authority to recommend punishment for officers.
Sanchez says many protestors have been passing out flyers encouraging people to attend the meeting.
Those high emotions came to a head Sunday when hundreds of demonstrators flooded the streets of Albuquerque in protest of the death of James Boyd.
The next city council meeting is Monday evening at five.
