Injured hiker rescued from Sandia Mountains

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A hiker was badly injured Sunday before being rescued from the Sandia’s.

Rescuers say the man was at a high altitude, sitting on a loose rock eating lunch when he slipped and fell down the mountain.

He suffered a severe head injury possible broken pelvis and legs and had a puncture wound to his chest resulting in a collapsed lung.

The hiker had to be carried to higher ground, before he could be taken out by medevac.

It took APD’s open space, AFD and mountain rescue to get him down.
