Woman charged after daughter tests positive for meth

OTERO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – An Otero County woman has been arrested after her 1-year-old daughter tested positive for meth.

Laura Evans, 29, has been charged with child abuse.

According to the Alamogordo Daily News, the child’s father had dropped her off with Evans for a visit and when he picked her up she was covered in nail polish.

Police say he knew his ex-wife was involved with drugs so he took the child to get screened for drugs too and she tested positive for amphetamine and meth.

Based on the failed drug test, authorities got an arrest warrant and took Evans into custody.
