WB I-40 closed at 98th due to a crash

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – According to the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department, an accident has closed all lanes of westbound I-40 from 98th Street to Paseo Del Volcan due to a crash involving two semi-trucks.

State Police say a tractor trailer tanker was rear-ended by a second tractor trailer which became disconnected from its frame and turned over on the driver’s side.

The driver of the tractor trailer that rear-ended the other vehicle was able to crawl out and was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The other driver was not injured.

Police say the tractor trailer that was hit was carrying water and it drained all over the road. About 20 gallons of diesel fuel leaked out of the second tractor trailer, but police say it did not appear to contaminate soil.

No charges have been filed at this point.

BCSO says traffic is being diverted to Central, but that section of I-40 should open soon, according to State Police.
