Ex-APD officer pleads guilty to sharing child porn

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A former APD officer has pleaded guilty to sharing child pornography Wednesday, according to the U.S. Department of Justice.

Nelson Begay, 32, was arrested Nov. 13 shortly after resigning as an officer. He was indicted a few weeks later.

In September of last year, the New Mexico Attorny General’s Office connected an IP address used to share the pornographic images to Begay. A week before he was arrested, HSI and the New Mexico Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force obtained a warrant to search Begay’s home, and they ended up seizing his computer.

On Wednesday, the DOJ says Begay pleaded guilty to sharing images Nov. 1, including a 30-minute video compiled of several videos of children doing sexual acts.

Begay will face anywhere between five and 20 years in prison when sentenced. He will also pay one of the victims $1,000 and will register as a sex offender.
