ABQ babysitter faces child abuse charges

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An Albuquerque babysitter is behind bars for child abuse.

Police say the parents of the 6-month-old child called them after they noticed a bruise on the back of the baby’s head and she was fussy and wouldn’t stop vomiting.

The child’s babysitter, 18-year-old Deiondra Pena, initially denied knowing where the bruising came from. But she then admitted to throwing the child into her playpen, then holding her down.

The infant was treated for a fractured skull and brain swelling.

Pena told police she threw the baby because she was frustrated.
