NM man dies in house fire trying to save son

MILAN, N.M. (KRQE) – A house fire in Milan left two people dead over the weekend.

The Associated Press cites The Gallup Independent saying that 48-year-old DJ Garcia tried to save his adult son Tyrone, who had Down syndrome but both died.

Three other family members managed to get out safely after DJ woke them up.

An investigator determined the fire started in a wood-burning stove.
