ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A guard at the Metro Detention Center has been charged with raping four female inmates.
A Bernalillo County grand jury handed up an eight-count indictment of criminal sexual penetration. The indictment alleges Torry Chambers raped the women between July 2008 and October of 2010.
KRQE News 13 reported on the case earlier this month, noting the lengthy delay in prosecuting the alleged crimes as the case bounced back and forth between state and federal prosecutors.
After the report, another alleged victim came forward. Her accusations are included in the indictment.
KRQE News 13 has learned that yet another woman has added her name to the list of alleged victims. Bernalillo County Sheriff’s detectives and a jail-hired private investigator are looking into her claims.
MDC officials have expressed frustration at the lack of resolution. A spokeswoman for MDC says Chief Ramon Rustin will meet with county legal advisers later this week to discuss Chambers’ employment status and, perhaps, decide whether or not to fire the 12-year veteran of the MDC force by Friday.
Chambers has been on paid administrative leave from his job as sergeant at the jail since new allegations were made last fall.
KRQE News 13 will have updates on the indictments Tuesday evening.
