Suspect who shot APD K-9 identified

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Investigators have released the name of the man they say shot an APD K-9 last week in the far northeast heights.

Dale Lusian, 56, is an ex-con with a long criminal history from at least three other states.

Police were responding to a call about a suspected thief inside a large industrial park on San Pedro Friday.

When they sent K-9 officer Rico inside, they say Lusian shot the dog three times.

Rico is now recovering at home with his handler.

Lusian was later found dead in an apparent suicide.

He had an active warrant for absconding from parole out of Arizona. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
