Gun dealing family won't get new trial

DEMING, N.M. (KRQE) – A gun-dealing family from Deming will not get a new trial after all.

A United States Appeals Court has reversed a lower court’s ruling that had granted a new trial for Rick and Terri Reese and their son Ryin.

A federal judge previously granted the Reese’s a new trial because the government didn’t tell the defense that a prosecution witness had been the subject of an investigation.

But the Federal Appeals Court said the trial’s outcome likely would have not been different.

The Reese’s were convicted in 2012 of making false statements on federal forms during weapon sales but were acquitted of accusations they helped smuggle guns to Mexican drug cartels. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
